The Rails Guild is run by Joel Gaff, Jr. The official entity behind it is Endurance Evolution, LLC. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect what the directory needs to work, we show what you choose to publish, and we sell nothing.

What we collect

  • Your email address. Used to sign you in with a one-time code and to send you mail about your account. It is never shown publicly.
  • Your public profile. Name, bio, location, links, avatar, and the apps you add. You publish these yourself and they are visible to anyone.
  • Verification data. When you verify an app we fetch your site and record the result of each check.
  • Where you signed up from. The IP address and browser identifier of your first sign-in are kept with your account to help us spot and stop abuse. They are never shown publicly.
  • An invitation request, if you make one. Ask on the site or email [email protected] and we keep your address, your name and what you wrote until the request has been answered, and for thirty days after that. Attachments are never kept.
  • A session cookie. One signed cookie keeps you logged in. We set no advertising cookies. Page views are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify you.
  • Where visits come from. When someone reaches the site through a tagged link, such as a QR code on a sticker, or from another website, we add one to a daily counter for that campaign or that site. We keep a count and nothing else: no address, no cookie, no session, and no row that could be traced back to a person.

How it is processed

Your data is stored with reputable hosting providers. If you choose to pin yourself on the guild globe, we store the spot you picked, rounded to about eleven kilometres. You can press a button to let your browser offer that spot rather than clicking for it. Your browser asks your permission first, and the rounding happens in the page before anything is sent, so your precise position never reaches us at all. We never look up your location from your address, your network, or anything else. Login codes and account email go out through a standard email delivery service.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your data.
  • We do not show you tracked advertising. Sponsor plaques are plain links.
  • We do not pull data about you from other services.

Your choices

You can edit or remove anything on your profile at any time. To delete your account and everything attached to it, email [email protected] and we will remove it.

Why be a patron

For a company or organization that wants Rails developers to know its name, there is no better place to be. Every member has proven they run the apps on their page, so these are people actually putting Rails into production, and the employers who come here to hire them read the same pages.

Your support helps fund hosting and ongoing development, and keeps the guild independent and free for the developers who use it. In return your company/organization is recognized on the site as a patron, in front of the exact people you want to reach. No ad network, no auction, and no tracking of anyone. Your mark is a plain link in good company.

How it works

Your plaque hangs on the rails flanking the directory on desktop, and rides the scrolling patron bars across the top and bottom of the page on phones. Every page's footer carries your name. Patronage never influences membership, badges, or rank.
